I am a Ph.D. in physics and make heavy use of NumPy/SciPy on my research work.
I am also leading the open-source project PyTioga. It is a 2D plotting program originally written for Ruby, and the target audience is those who need to produce very high quality PDF/PostScript figures for publication. It is currently at alpha, but is pretty usable already. Please try it and let me know of your suggestions!
